Schools Closed Today In Districts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala

Schools and colleges have been ordered to remain shut in several parts of India today (October 22). As per official orders, schools in some districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala have been asked to stay closed on Wednesday as the region has been experiencing heavy rainfall.The Idukki District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. However, students and parents should note that this order is not applicable to the residential schools, i.e. the schools where students stay on the campus.As per IMD, coastal areas along Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, as well as adjoining sea regions, are likely to face squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas during this period.Similarly, Puducherry has been experiencing continuous rainfall since Tuesday afternoon, with nearly three cm recorded between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Keeping in mind the torrential rainfall, Puducherry’s Home and Education Minister, A. Namassivayam, announced that all schools and colleges in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions will remain closed on Wednesday. This decision to keep schools and colleges closed in rain-affected areas has been taken to ensure that students stay safe within their houses.Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for eight districts in Tamil Nadu, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm within the next 24 hours. The affected districts are Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvallur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Ramanathapuram. Additionally, Chennai and nearby areas. These areas have been placed under an orange alert, expecting very heavy rainfall of 11–20 cm.
