New Delhi: Former Australian batsman Michael Hussey has made an interesting statement. He said that if he had started his career at a younger age, he might have scored 5,000 more runs than Sachin Tendulkar. Hussey scored a total of 12,398 runs in 324 international innings, including 22 centuries and 72 half-centuries.
Record Performance in Domestic Cricket
Hussey’s domestic record was also impressive. In 273 matches, he scored nearly 23,000 runs and 61 centuries. However, he made his international debut at the age of 28, due to the tremendous talent in the Australian team at that time.
International Career and Achievements
After making his debut in 2004, Hussey established himself and became a key player for Australia. He helped the team win the 2007 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2006 and 2009. Hussey made this claim jokingly, but his confidence and dedication to the team are clearly evident.
Hussey vs. Sachin
Hussey said, “I’ve thought a lot about maybe I could have surpassed Sachin Tendulkar by 5,000 runs. But when I wake up in the morning, it feels like a dream. When I got the chance, I showed my full potential.” Hussey scored 78 fewer centuries than Sachin, but played 450 fewer innings.
