Known for her witty sketches and confident personality online, Dolly said that her reality as a young woman was marked by constant fear and vigilance.Recalling her college days, Dolly shared, “Main Yamuna Vihar mein rehti thi, Delhi University se aane mein time lagta tha. Bus se aati thi, to kai baar meri chhutti jab day mein ho jaati thi, to 1:30 baje ussi time pe government school ke bachchon ki chhutti hoti thi.”(I used to live in Yamuna Vihar, and it took me some time to get back from Delhi University. I would often get done early, around 1:30 pm, the same time government school kids were leaving for home.)She went on to describe how even those young boys behaved inappropriately. “Aur itna pareshan karte the wo bachche, uss samay agar ghar aa gaye, aap PG aa gaye wapas, to bahut mushkil tha uss bus stand se apne PG tak pahunchna,” Dolly recalled. Dolly added that these were not grown men but young children. “Bilkul chhote bachche matlab chhote bachche hain ye, aur wo itna riot machate hain. Wo aisi-aisi cheezein bolte hain ladkiyon ko, patthar maarte hain,” she said.(Those boys would harass us so much that it was difficult to even walk from the bus stand to our PG safely. They were just small school kids, yet they would create chaos, saying vulgar things to girls and even throwing stones at them.)Shocked at their behaviour, she questioned, “Fifth standard ke bachche, jinko dekh ke lagta hai ki bhai tu gudde-gudiyon se khelo, tum ye kya kar rahe ho? Ye saare thoughts tumhare dimaag mein aa kahan se rahe hain?”(Kids as young as those in fifth grade — who should be playing with toys — how are such thoughts even entering their minds?)Dolly Singh’s bleak encounter with PoliceThe influencer also spoke about a frightening incident involving bikers who followed her and her friends late in the evening. “Ek baar humne police ko complaint kiya tha. Kuch bike wale humein follow kar rahe the… police aake humein bolti hai – aap bahar kya kar rahe ho? 8:00 baj rahe the, it’s not like 12:00 baj rahe the. Toh that irritation, you know.”(Once, we complained to the police after a few bikers followed us. But when the police arrived, they asked us why we were outside.
