ICC Women’s World Cup: Will Alyssa Healy return against South Africa? Tahlia McGrath finally breaks silence on Australia captain, says…

Tahlia McGrath shared an update on Alyssa Healy’s fitness ahead of Australia’s Women’s World Cup match against South Africa on Saturday, October 25, at Holkar Stadium, Indore. Healy had missed the last game against England after suffering a minor calf injury during practice on October 19.

Who captained Australia in Alyssa Healy’s absence?

In Healy’s absence, McGrath captained the team, and Georgia Voll was added to the lineup. McGrath mentioned that Healy resumed training on Friday, but the team will decide on her availability before the match begins.

“Midge is at training today. We haven’t finalised the playing eleven yet, as she’s still a bit of a day-by-day case. We’ll see how that pans out,” McGrath said in the pre-match press conference.

Although Australia remain undefeated and have already qualified for the semifinals, their journey hasn’t been entirely smooth. In the match against England, they struggled early at 24 for three, before Ash Gardner’s 104 and Annabel Sutherland’s 98 guided them to victory.

What more did Tahlia McGrath mention?

McGrath mentioned that Australia can still improve in some areas, but they have figured out ways to maintain their winning streak.

“Every game, we’ve reviewed and identified small areas to improve. The most pleasing thing is that we’ve consistently found ways to win, and I feel we’ve developed that belief as a group—that we can win from any position. That’s been a massive positive,” McGrath said.

“Of course, there are still little elements in every game we want to improve. We’re still striving for what you might call the perfect game, but overall, I’m really happy with how we’ve played our cricket and with our ability to find ways to win in this tournament,” McGrath added.

Saturday’s match is important, as it will decide whether South Africa or Australia ends up first on the points table and earns a semifinal game against India.
