Director Bhanu Bhogavarapu Promises a Fresh Mass Feast with Ravi Teja’s “Mass Jathara”

“Mass Jathara,” the 75th film of Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja, is all set to hit theatres on October 31st, with special evening previews planned. Produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, and presented by Srikara Studios, this film marks the directorial debut of Bhanu Bhogavarapu, a well-known writer behind several Telugu blockbusters. Starring Ravi Teja, Sreeleela, and Naveen Chandra, the movie features music by Bheems Ceciroleo.
Speaking to the media, director Bhanu Bhogavarapu shared that Mass Jathara combines strong mass elements with a completely new concept. The story unfolds in the Railway Police backdrop, bringing a different flavor to the crime and action genre. Interestingly, the film’s title was suggested by Ravi Teja himself after hearing the story. Bhanu said that once the title was finalized, he made sure to make the film even more powerful and entertaining to match the expectations.
Bhanu revealed that the story is fictional but inspired by real insights gathered from interactions with Railway Police officers. He added that while the setting is realistic, the story is filled with commercial elements that will excite fans.
Talking about directing Ravi Teja’s milestone 75th film, Bhanu shared, “We didn’t realize it was his 75th film until later. But Ravi Teja garu told me to just focus on making a good film, not to worry about the number. His encouragement gave me immense confidence.”
Actor Naveen Chandra plays the powerful antagonist Shivudu. Bhanu said, “We gave him a complete makeover and even did a special photoshoot. After seeing it, everyone, including Naga Vamsi garu, was impressed. Naveen completely owned the role.”
On Sreeleela’s character Tulasi, Bhanu said, “From the writing stage itself, we knew it had to be her. It’s not just because of their Dhamaka combo — the character truly suits her. Her role is very important and shows a new shade of her performance.”
Though Bhanu is best known for his comedy writing, he chose to debut as a director with a mass entertainer. “The film has humor, but it’s packed with mass moments too. Initially, I wanted to do a romantic comedy like Samajavaragamana, but everyone asked for a solid mass story — and who better than Ravi Teja for that!” he said.
Responding to comparisons with Ravi Teja’s iconic police roles like Vikramarkudu, Bhanu clarified, “We made sure this is totally different. It’s a new setup, a new treatment, and pays tribute to his legacy without copying it.”
The trailer also includes references to Venky and Idiot. Bhanu explained, “Those are fun tributes for fans — they don’t affect the story but add nostalgia.”
He praised music director Bheems Ceciroleo, saying, “Ravi Teja garu suggested Bheems. His first song ‘Tu Mera Lover’ blew us away. His music will be one of the biggest highlights of the film.”
Bhanu also spoke about the grand production scale, revealing that producer Naga Vamsi supported him without compromise. “They built a massive railway station set worth over ₹6 crores. Even the Jathara episode was shot on a huge scale. For a debut director, that’s rare support,” he said.
The film’s action sequences are said to be a major highlight. Bhanu shared that Ravi Teja even injured his leg and hand during the shoot but continued with complete dedication.
Promising a fresh cinematic experience, Bhanu concluded, “Mass Jathara has everything Ravi Teja fans love — powerful action, humor, and energy — but presented in a completely new way. I’m confident audiences will enjoy every bit of it.”
With Ravi Teja’s charisma, Sreeleela’s charm, and Bhanu’s fresh direction, Mass Jathara looks ready to light up the theatres and give Telugu audiences a grand festive treat this October 31st.
