Music director Hesham Abdul Wahab has revealed that the emotional tension and conflict between the lead characters in The Girlfriend inspired the film’s soulful music. Starring Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty, this romantic drama is produced under the banners of Geetha Arts and Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment, with Allu Aravind presenting it. Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the movie is set for release in Hindi and Telugu on November 7, followed by Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada on November 14.
Sharing his experience, Hesham said, “The Girlfriend was the first Telugu movie I signed. After that, I worked on Kushi and Hi Nanna, which were also love stories, but this one carries a much deeper intensity. The emotions between Vikram and Bhooma’s characters truly inspired my compositions. Their conflict helped me create meaningful and heartfelt songs.”
The film features four songs, with the recently released track Needhey standing out as an anthem dedicated to every girl. “Director Rahul wanted Needhey to be a ‘Bhooma anthem,’ blending Indian classical ragas with Western instruments. I worked very hard to achieve that sound,” Hesham explained.
Although the film’s release was delayed, Hesham appreciated fellow composer Prashanth Vihari for handling the background score beautifully. “The BGM perfectly reflects the emotion I envisioned,” he said.
Talking about his creative process, Hesham mentioned that he doesn’t follow a strict composing schedule. “There’s no fixed time for creativity. I admire A.R. Rahman, and performing my Hi Nanna songs in front of him at the IIFA Awards was unforgettable,” he shared.
Hesham, who began his career as a singer, continues to lend his voice to songs across projects. “I’ve sung in films like Mass Jathara and Kannappa, and it’s helped me learn Telugu faster. I don’t accept every offer; I choose projects that excite me. But I always value opportunities from big banners like Sithara, Geetha Arts, and Mythri Movie Makers,” he added.
Known for his melodious love tracks, Hesham now plans to explore mass and upbeat songs. “I’ve composed background music for romantic films like Manamey and 8 Vasanthalu, which got great responses. Now, I’m working on a film with Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi, directed by Aditya Hassan, along with a few Tamil and Kannada projects. My first Bollywood movie will also be announced soon,” he said with excitement.
With The Girlfriend, Hesham Abdul Wahab promises audiences a musical journey filled with emotion, passion, and depth — perfectly matching the story’s heartfelt intensity
