Indore Municipal Corporation Demolishes 140 Houses in Malviya Nagar for Road Expansion, ETRealty

INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) demolished parts of 140 houses in Malviya Nagar on Street Number 2 for widening of roads under Master Plan. The massive operation was aimed at clearing obstructions for construction of MR-9 to LIG Link Road, which will serve as a parallel road to Ring Road and AB Road between C21 Mall and LIG square, under the Master Plan.

The IMC’s removal team deployed a fleet of five earth movers and five excavators to execute the action, successfully freeing the corridor required for 60-foot (18-metre) wide road.

While some residents expressed distress, others acknowledged the need for the wider road, and confirmed they received prior notice. A resident Bablu Chouhan confirmed that 19 feet of his house was demolished but admitted, “The road construction will benefit us too. We received a notice in April, so we already demolished some of the section ourselves.”

Another resident, Raju Singh said, “17.5 feet of my house was broken. IMC gave a final notice four days ago. We broke half of it ourselves.” He, however, expressed reservations noting that a slightly narrower road might have sufficed given the presence of the Ring Road and AB Road nearby.

In contrast, a 50-year resident Ajab Singh omplained that they were denied a requested 24-hour extension.

IMC building officer Vinod Agrawal said that the action was taken to widen Malviya Nagar road to 60 feet. “People were given notices earlier, and many of them have voluntarily demolished parts of their houses,” he said.

The Malviya Nagar action follows a similar drive on Monday when 11 houses were partially demolished along the route from Khade Ganapati to Tigariya Badshah for a 100-foot wide road.

IMC commissioner Dilip Yadav maintained that adherence to the Master Plan was crucial for managing future traffic, particularly in light of events like Ujjain Simhastha in 2028.
