Raju Weds Rambai, releasing on November 21, is fast becoming one of the most talked-about Telugu films of the season. Presented by Dr. Nageshwar Rao Pujari and produced by Venu Udugula and Rahul Mopidevi under Dolamukhi Subaltern Films and Monsoons Tales, the film is directed by Sailu Kampati. Akhil Raj and Tejaswini, who play the lead pair, opened up about their emotional and intense experience working on this project.
Akhil Raj said that becoming an actor was a dream he chased for years. After Intermediate, he stepped into the industry as a media anchor and photographer before making YouTube short films like Sakhiya and Evandoi Owner Garu. He also acted in Vindubhojanam, which later streamed on Aha. The lockdown slowed his journey, but he used that time to take theatre training. After several auditions and a tough selection process involving the director Sailu, Venu Udugula, and ETV Win, he finally grabbed the role of Raju.
Akhil shared that although he knew the Telangana dialect, he had to learn the exact village accent needed for the film. He also trained for two months to play the dappu drum. According to him, Raju is a character every young man will relate to — someone who faces pain, anger, challenges, and still stands strong for love. Reading the script and especially the climax left him shaken and emotional because of how deeply the story reflects real-life struggles. He praised Tejaswini for being a supportive and talented co-star, saying their teamwork helped them perform exactly as the director imagined.
Akhil believes this film is the result of his ten-year struggle in the industry. He even rejected other offers to fully focus on promoting Raju Weds Rambai. The song “Rambai Neemeedha Naku” has already become a big hit, and he feels Suresh’s music is one of the major strengths of the film. He promised audiences a climax unlike anything seen before in Telugu cinema, and the strong pre-release buzz on social media has boosted his confidence. Akhil’s upcoming films include Small Town Boys under Suresh Productions and another project featuring Anupama and Tharun Bhascker.
Tejaswini, the film’s heroine, revealed that her acting journey began in 2019 with a short film. She later acted in Committee Kurrollu, directed by Yadhu Vamsi, who later introduced her to Raju Weds Rambai. The team felt she was perfect for the character Rambai, and director Sailu guided her closely, especially in mastering the Telangana village dialect.
Tejaswini said she shaped Rambai exactly as the director visualized — from her behaviour to her speech. After the trailer, many appreciated her performance and the natural feel of her character. She described Rambai as a girl with many layers: joyful with Raju, strong in tough moments, and emotional while seeking her father’s acceptance. She believes Rambai will be remembered as one of the beautifully written female characters in Telugu cinema.
The climax portion was especially difficult for her. The last 30 minutes of the film are emotionally heavy, and performing those scenes left her deeply affected. To deliver the emotion powerfully, the team also did workshops. Tejaswini compared Raju Weds Rambai to films like 7/G Brindavan Colony, Premisthe, Baby, and Sairat, saying that this film too will earn a cult status once audiences watch it in theatres. Though inspired by a real incident, it also includes cinematic moments to enhance the storytelling.
She is currently working on a Tamil film with Prabhu Solomon and is hearing new Telugu scripts, choosing stories based on what excites her as an audience member.
With strong performances, an intense emotional core, viral music, and a gripping climax, Raju Weds Rambai is shaping up to be one of the most promising releases of the year. Audiences are eagerly waiting to experience the film on November 21.
