Team India will look to seal the ODI series with a win over South Africa in the second game at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday. KL Rahul’s side are 1-0 up in the three-match series after their 17-run win in the first ODI match in Ranchi on Sunday.
It will be an important series win for the Indian side, who are missing their regular ODI skipper Shubman Gill due to injury and had lost the three-match series 2-1 against Australia down under in October. But the star cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have got them off to a flying start in the ODI series against the Proteas.
Kohli notched up a record 52nd century in ODI cricket while former captain Rohit Sharma was equally explosive with 57 off 51 balls. Stand-in skipper KL Rahul came up with a brilliant 60 coming down the order at number six to power India to 349 in the first ODI.
South Africa, on the other hand, made a good fist of the massive chase after sliding to 11 for 3 in the first 10 overs. Matthew Breetzke, Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch came up with brilliant half-centuries to keep the visitors in the hunt but Kuldeep Yadav’s four-wicket haul and Harshit Rana’s three wickets turned the tide for India.
Indian have won four out of the last five ODI matches against South Africa, but overall the Proteas still hold edge with 51 wins as compared to 40 by India in 94 ODI matches so far.
