The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) began on November 26 and now, after exhilarating action of T20 cricket, we are in the business end of the tournament. Today, December 16, will be remembered for the IPL 2026 mini auction day. However, two of the eight remaining teams will seal a spot in the SMAT final, which will be played on December 18.
It is the last round of the Super League and the stakes couldn’t be any higher. Having said that, the players involved will be somewhat revealed today, as all the pressure of performing before an IPL auction will be gone. Unfortunately for Rajasthan and Punjab, both are out of contention for a spot in the final. However, all other teams need to win their games today. Consider it as a semi-final.
Ishan Kishan’s Jharkhand, who have been unbeaten across nine games this season, will take on Nitish Kumar Reddy’s Andhra. Jharkhand need to avoid a loss with a huge margin to qualify. Meanwhile, in Group B, the winner of the Hyderabad vs Haryana fixture is most likely to feature in the final, with Mumbai all but out.
