New Delhi: Prithvi Shaw shared his emotions after returning to Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2026 auction held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. 26-year-old batter represented Delhi Capitals for seven seasons before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Last year, the 26-year-old went unsold as DC chose not to bid for the now Maharashtra cricketer.

Shaw had a long wait at the auction table, as he went unsold in the main rounds before his name came up in the accelerated set. In the final accelerated round, he was one of the 11 players picked and was snapped up by his former franchise for Rs 75 lakh.

Delhi previously brought Shaw for Rs 1.2 crore following India’s Under-19 World Cup triumph in 2018, where he led the side. During his first stint with DC, Shaw featured in 79 matches and scored 1,892 runs at an average of 23.5, which included 14 half-centuries.

Shaw switched his domestic team from Mumbai to Maharashtra

After releasing him before the 2025 mega auction, DC co-owner Parth Jindal had stated that missing out on the IPL could serve as a wake-up call for Shaw. The batter endured a tough domestic season, struggling for consistency and dealing with off-field issues. In search of a fresh start and more opportunities, he switched his domestic team from Mumbai to Maharashtra.

While Shaw showed some promise early in the Ranji Trophy, but he failed to carry that momentum in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 183 runs in seven matches at an average of 26 and a strike rate of 160.52.

Shaw ended up being the second-last signing for Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2026 auction. The franchise had earlier strengthened their squad with smart purchases, picking up Ben Duckett and David Miller at their base prices.
