“One Battle After Another” Rules Box-Office

Paul Thomas Anderson’s expensive radicalist action feature “One Battle After Another” is on track for a $20-25 million opening domestically this weekend following a nearly $9 million haul on Friday.

That latter number includes previews and an early screening earlier in the week. IMAX and PLF screens are making a huge chunk of that revenue – around 52%.

Internationally, the film is expected to pull in a further $25 million, bringing its global debut up to $50 million. It will be, by far, Anderson’s biggest opening ever at the box office.

The film is riding high on effusive critical and audience praise with stunning critical aggregate scores and a rock-solid ‘A’ CinemaScore from audiences, along with high PostTrak exit numbers.

Those are expected to get the film to a high multiplier and hopefully minimal drops in the weeks to come. The title has no real competition until “TRON: Ares” on October 10th. It has already helped push Warners to become the first studio to cross $4 billion at the global box office this year.

Coming in second will be “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie,” which looks to debut with a $13.5 million opening, followed by “The Conjuring: Last Rites” with $7.1 million, “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” with $6.4 million, and “The Strangers – Chapter 2” with $5-6 million.
