Veteran actor Prakash Raj has once again sparked discussion in film circles with his strong comments on the current state of Hindi cinema. Speaking candidly, the National Award–winning actor said that Bollywood has lost its originality and now looks “plastic,” comparing it to lifeless statues at Madame Tussauds.
Prakash Raj stated that Hindi cinema today lacks authenticity and emotional depth. He felt that many films are being made without a strong connection to reality, focusing more on artificial presentation rather than meaningful storytelling. According to him, this has created a visible gap between cinema and audiences.
In contrast, the actor praised South Indian cinema, especially Malayalam and Tamil films, for staying rooted in real-life stories and strong narratives. He said these industries continue to produce content-driven films that reflect society, emotions, and human struggles in an honest way. He specifically mentioned that Malayalam and Tamil filmmakers are consistently delivering powerful stories that connect with viewers across languages.
Highlighting the new wave of filmmakers, Prakash Raj said young Tamil directors are boldly addressing important social issues, including Dalit lives and marginalised voices. He expressed hope seeing this new generation of filmmakers who are not afraid to speak the truth through cinema and challenge existing social structures.
According to him, South cinema still has many stories left to tell, and that sincerity is what keeps it alive and relevant. His remarks have once again ignited discussions on the creative direction of Indian cinema and the growing appreciation for content-driven storytelling over commercial formulas.
Prakash Raj’s comments have gone viral on social media, with many film lovers agreeing with his views and applauding South cinema for leading the way with meaningful cinema.
