The upcoming Telugu film Cockroach has completed its censor formalities, marking an important step toward its theatrical release. The Central Board of Film Certification has granted the film an “A” certificate, indicating that the movie is meant for adult audiences due to its intense themes and raw portrayal of violence and social realities. The makers have stated that the film is not suitable for children or sensitive viewers and have advised discretion.
Directed by P. Suneel Kumar Reddy and produced by B. Bapiraju under the Sri Lakshmi Pictures banner, Cockroach is positioned as a bold social drama that explores life on the fringes of society. The film tells an unconventional love story between a street-side sex worker and a contract killer, using their unlikely bond to reflect on the hypocrisy and moral decay within a corrupt social system. By drawing a contrast between how society celebrates beauty and condemns what it considers “dirty,” the film aims to question double standards and uncomfortable truths.
The makers say Cockroach dives into the darker side of human behavior and urban life, presenting a narrative that challenges viewers to rethink their perspectives on crime, compassion, and social judgment. To bring realism to the action sequences, real fighters have been cast in key roles. Abhilash Sunkara, Premasan, and Naveen appear as contract killers inspired by real-life experiences, adding authenticity to the film’s intense confrontations. National Award-winning actress Teertha, known for Sontha Ooru, plays an important role, while Meenakshi, Raman, Bugatha, Anji Gagan, Pradeep, Samudram Venkatesh, Mallika, FM Babai, Raju, Balaji, LB Ramana, RK Singh, Pooja, Potti Murthy, Prasad, members of the Relare Raghu troupe, Johnny, and others are seen in supporting roles.
The technical crew includes music composer Pradeep Chandra, editor Raghu, cinematographer Santosh, fight master Premasan, lyricist Pratap, and sound designer Nagaraju. The story, screenplay, and direction are handled by P. Suneel Kumar Reddy, with production by B. Bapiraju and Mutuki Naga Satyanarayana. With post-production nearing completion, the team has confirmed that preparations are underway to bring Cockroach to theatres in the first week of March. The film is expected to attract attention for its hard-hitting content, socially relevant theme, and realistic portrayal of characters living on the margins of society.
