After the digital players are dictating rules about the digital rights and the OTT window, all the producers have nothing much to do except to bow down to their demands. Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu emerged as the Sankranthi blockbuster and the film dominated all the releases. Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu is still doing decent in theatres while the film is all set to stream on Zee5 starting midnight. There should be exceptions for some of the films which are doing decent in theatres. The four week OTT window is a threat but the producers have nothing much to do except falling in the trap.
Zee5 acquired the rights for a fancy price and they acquired the deal on the basis of a four week OTT window. The makers have no other option. At least for films like Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, the digital platforms should push the streaming date to disrupt the theatrical run. Some of the producers of Telugu cinema are demanding a six-week or a eight-week OTT window in future but most of the digital players are not ready. Bollywood producers are strictly implementing an eight-week OTT window for every film.
If Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu is not available on Zee5, the film would have had one more decent weekend.
