Suhas-starrer Hey Balwanth opened in theatres on February 20 and surprised the trade with stronger-than-expected first-day collections. After facing a dry spell at the box office last year, the actor seems to have made a solid comeback with this release. The film had paid premiere shows in select cities on the previous night, which received a decent response and helped build momentum for the opening day. While theatre occupancy was moderate in a few centres, overall footfalls were encouraging, according to trade sources.
As per early estimates, Hey Balwanth collected around ₹80 to ₹90 lakh nett across India on Day 1, with worldwide gross crossing the ₹1 crore mark. Compared to Suhas’ previous theatrical release, which opened at a much lower figure, this film has registered nearly three times higher opening numbers. Trade analysts also noted that collections picked up further on Saturday, indicating positive word of mouth and steady growth over the weekend. The film has also reported a respectable start in overseas markets.
The film features Shivani Nagaram as the female lead, with senior actors Naresh, Sudarshan, Annapurnamma and Harshavardhan in key roles. Directed by Gopi Acharya and produced by B Narendra Reddy, Hey Balwanth was released by Vamsi Nandipati and Bunny Vaas. With its encouraging opening and improving trend, the film is expected to gain more traction over the weekend, giving Suhas a much-needed box office boost.
