The upcoming international film “King Buddha” is drawing global attention as its Hollywood director Satya Reddy joined a peace walk led by Buddhist monks in Telangana. Sixty monks from Thailand are currently on a 400-kilometre foot march for world peace, walking from Swarnabhoomi in Karnataka to Buddhavanam at Nagarjuna Sagar in Telangana. On Tuesday, the monks covered a 17-kilometre stretch from Hyderabad to Turkayamjal, where Satya Reddy and members of the King Buddha film unit walked alongside them in solidarity.
During the walk, senior monks blessed the film’s team and presented Satya Reddy with a Gautama Buddha locket, expressing hope that King Buddha will spread the message of peace across the world and achieve global success. The director said the project, titled “King Buddha (We Want World Peace),” is being made as a large-scale Hollywood production with a strong message of harmony and non-violence. He revealed that shooting has already been completed in 10 countries and filming is planned across 15 more Buddhist nations in the coming months.
Satya Reddy added that the film features actors from Hollywood, Bollywood and South Indian cinema, making it a truly global collaboration. The makers are planning to release the film in over 100 languages to reach audiences worldwide. He also shared that his earlier film Ukkku Satyagraham had inspired him to learn about Buddhism, and that journey eventually led him to take up the challenge of making a full-length feature on Gautama Buddha’s life and teachings.
The director announced that teaser and trailer launches are planned in Thailand and Malaysia, while pre-release events will be held in Delhi and Amaravati. He said the King Buddha team will continue to participate in the peace walk until its completion and expressed his wish that similar padayatras for world peace should one day be organised from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Calling his journey from Tollywood to Hollywood a matter of pride, Satya Reddy said King Buddha aims to present the life of Buddha and the principles of Panchasheela to a global audience, promoting peace, compassion and coexistence.
