Veteran producer A. M. Rathnam has made an honest and interesting revelation about the making of Bheema, starring Vikram. In a recent interview, the producer openly admitted that he was never fully convinced about the film’s story, even before it went on floors.
Speaking about the project, AM Rathnam said that whenever he listens to a story, he is usually able to judge to some extent whether it has the potential to succeed or not. Recalling Bheema, he revealed that he did not like the story when director N. Lingusamy first narrated it to him.
According to Rathnam, it was actor Vikram who responded positively to the story and showed confidence in the project. That support eventually led to the film being made. However, the producer admitted that even after the project moved forward, he still did not feel confident about its chances at the box office.
He explained that one of the main reasons behind his concern was that the story did not undergo any major changes after the initial narration. In his view, the film remained largely the same from the first version he heard, which left him doubtful about its overall impact on audiences.
AM Rathnam also stated that the final result of the film reflected exactly what he had felt at that time. His comments have now sparked fresh discussion among film lovers and industry followers, especially because it is rare for a senior producer to speak so frankly about a past project.
Bheema, which was released with high expectations, had generated attention mainly because of the combination of Vikram and Lingusamy. While the film had its own commercial appeal and fan interest at the time of release, it did not fully meet the expectations that surrounded it.
The producer’s latest remarks have once again brought the film back into conversation, with many now revisiting how much story judgment, star belief and creative decisions influence a movie’s final outcome. His statement also offers a glimpse into how experienced producers often assess scripts long before the audience gets to see the final product.
AM Rathnam’s candid reflection has now become a talking point, not only because it concerns a known film like Bheema, but also because it highlights the gap that can sometimes exist between confidence inside a film team and the eventual box office reality.
