A brilliant spell from Eshan Malinga has set up Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 10-run victory against Chennai Super Kings on April 18 at Hyderabad.
His three-wicket haul, conceding 29 runs, has set up the third win for the side. With this win, SRH moved to the fourth position of the IPL 2026 points table.
After being invited to bat first, SRH’s Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the innings while Matt Short opened the bowling attack.
Abhishek Sharma made a stunning start, smashing a 15-ball fifty, while Travis Head had a decent start. Mukesh Choudhary bagged the wickets of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan in the final over of the powerplay.
With Travis Head got dismissed on a full toss delivery, Ishan Kishan sliced the ball to mid off as Gaikwad caught the ball safely.
By the end of powerplay, SRH scored 75 runs for two wickets. Jamie Overton who introduced to bowling attack, bagged the wicket of Abhishek Sharma for 59 runs.
He caught out behind the wickets on an outside edge. Abhishek Sharma’s knock included 6 fours and four sixes. With Aniket Verma’s dismissal for 2 runs, SRH lost four wickets for 112 runs.
However, Heinrich Klaasen stabilised the innings while on the other hand Jamie bagged the wicket of Nitish Reddy for 12 runs. He went on to slam his 10th IPL fifty and continued to bat aiming for posting a 200+ runs in the scoreboard.
Anshul Kamboj brought necessary breakthrough dismissing Klaasen for 59 runs. While Gurjapneet Singh bagged the wicket of Salil Arora on a wide yorker, Anshul Kamboj picked the wickets of Shivang Kumar and Liam Livingstone in the final over as SRH posted 194 runs in their 20 over innings.
Apart from Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Choudhary bagged two wickets in his two over spell while Gurjapneet Singh bagged a wicket in his four over spell.

Chasing the 195 runs target, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings while Praful Hinge opened the bowling attack.
Nitish Reddy bagged the wicket of Sanju Samson for seven runs. Ayush Mhatre who joined Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed 30 runs off 13 deliveries. In the meantime, he got hamstring cramps and got dismissed by Nitish Reddy.
Eshan Malinga bagged the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad for 19 runs as CSK lost three wickets in the powerplay.
With Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan at crease, CSK scored 76 runs in the powerplay. Sarafaraz Khan scored 26 runs off 18 deliveries before being dismissed Eshan Malinga. After his dismissal, Dewald Brevis came to bat and got dismissed for duck.
Shivam Dube joined Short at the crease, aiming to complete the chase. However, Eshan Malinga bagged the wicket of Matthew Short for 34 runs.
On the other hand, Shivam Dube scored 21 runs off 16 deliveries and got dismissed by Sakib Hussain.
With Jamie Overton went back to dug out for 16 runs after being dismissed by Praful Hinge. With Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad at crease, Chennai Super Kings scored 184 runs in their 20 over innings and lost the game by 10 runs.
Eshan Malinga bagged three wickets while Nitish Reddy bagged two wickets. On the other hand, Praful Hinge, Sakib Hussaina, and Shivang Kumar completed their respective spell with a wicket tally.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their next game against Delhi Capitals on April 21 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
