The OTT deals have turned out to be a major recovery option for the producers. After the pandemic, the digital giants have offered big prices for the digital rights and other non-theatrical deals. Things changed gradually and all the digital platforms have now slashed the prices. Not stopping here, they have imposed new rules and are dictating the release dates. The payments for the closed deals too are delayed. Some of the producers decided to start a film’s shoot after the digital deal is closed. The scripts are sent to various digital platforms and if the deal gets closed, the film is heading for shoot.
Else, the films are put on hold. The producers are not ready to take a risk after the digital players are rejecting the films during scripting stages. All the top producers are now following the same and they have kept a bunch of films on hold. Some of them have made it clear that the project will not go ahead without the approval of the digital platforms. Most of the producers are not ready to take any risks. This is applicable for all the films except for the top stars.
