Hyderabad: How illegal constructions are leaving 600 homes at Methodist Colony inundated after every spell of rain

Hyderabad: Residents of Methodist Colony in Begumpet have alleged that illegal constructions are blocking the natural flow of rainwater into stormwater drains, leaving their locality inundated after every spell of rain.

Floodwater from Begumpet Railway Station, Country Club, and Kundanbagh reportedly stagnates in the colony, submerging nearly 660 homes and surrounding apartments.

The colony welfare association said repeated complaints to multiple departments had gone unanswered and demanded immediate clearance of obstructions to prevent further damage.

HYDRAA Prajavani grievance platform received as many as 29 complaints, most of them relating to nala encroachments and flooding.

Pocharam roads under water

Residents of Higiri Colony, Pocharam Municipality (Medchal–Malkajgiri district) complained that a nala near Jedimetla crossroads has been encroached upon by Medha Servo Drives. The obstruction is causing waterlogging on roads and forcing colonies to deal with stagnant sewage for days.

Errakunta Mosque flooded

In Jalpally Municipality, Rangareddy district, residents alleged that a 20-foot-wide nala near Masjid-e-Kuba, Errakunta, has been illegally reduced to just a 3-foot RCC pipe by a nearby property owner.

They said the narrowing has resulted in sewage water flowing into the mosque during rains, while neighboring localities are also suffering from prolonged water stagnation.

Parkland lost to encroachers

Members of the Engineers Enclave Welfare Society in Chandanagar (Serilingampally mandal) complained that 2,470 sq. metres of land reserved for a park in Survey Nos. 366 and 367 have been encroached upon.

According to them, sheds and servicing centres have been set up on the park site, depriving nearly 3,000 families of recreational space. They urged officials to clear the encroachments and restore the park for community use.

Officials review complaints

HYDRAA Additional Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar reviewed the grievances and directed concerned officials to take up corrective action at the earliest.
