New Delhi: Pakistan batter Nashra Sandhu became only the second player in Women’s World Cup history to be dismissed hit wicket, in a rare incident during their opening match against Bangladesh on Thursday. The sarnge incident occurred 52 years ago, when Lynette Smith of the International XI Women was dismissed in the same manner.
Sandhu scored only 1 run before her rare dismissal off Shorna Akter’s delivery in the 35th over, with video clips of the incident quickly going viral on social media.
Bangladesh showcased strong bowling display
The rare dismissal occurred during a strong bowling display by Bangladesh, led by young pacer Marufa Akter and seasoned spinner Nahida Akter, which held Pakistan to a disappointing total of 129 all out in 38.3 overs on a slow batting track at the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Bangladesh’s 20-year-old pacer Marufa Akter delivered an early blow, as she dismissed opener Omaima Sohail and seasoned batter Sidra Amin for first-ball ducks, leaving Pakistan struggling at 2/2.
Bangladesh’s bowling attack crushed Pakistan’s chances of forming partnership
Nahida Akter’s slow left-arm spin then intensified the pressure, removing Muneeba Ali (17) and Rameen Shamim (23) shortly after the powerplay, effectively crushing Pakistan’s chances of forming meaningful partnerships.
Sandhu’s dismissal increased Pakistan’s troubles as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. The team struggled to gain momentum, as Pakistan managed to reach 100 runs only in the 30th over, and finished with just 14 boundaries, out of which four of them came in the powerplay. Bangladesh’s strategic bowling pushed Pakistan on the back foot throughout the innings, displaying both the bowlers skill and the batting side’s difficulty in adapting.
