Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Telangana will become the first constituency in the state to display colour photographs of candidates in the upcoming by-poll.
District Election Commissioner (DEO) of Hyderabad and GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan, on Monday, announced, “As per the ECI instructions, we will be using colour photographs of candidates in the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency by-poll scheduled for November 11.”
The DEO also stated that all the EVMs supplied by BHEL have been thoroughly checked a second time in the presence of party representatives.
Speaking to the media, Karnan and Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V C Sajjanar added that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into immediate effect on Monday. Special teams have been deployed to clear flexis and other materials as per the MCC guidelines in the Jubilee Hills constituency.
“The MCC is applicable across the entire Hyderabad district,” Karnan emphasized.
Candidates with criminal antecedents will be required to publish information about their criminal background in newspapers and through TV channels on three separate occasions during the campaign period. Additionally, political parties must publish details about the criminal backgrounds of their candidates on their websites. FIRs will be registered against those violating the MCC, said the District Election Officer.
Citizens wishing to enrol as new voters can apply within 10 days, and apart from EPICs, 12 other government-recognised documents can be used as proof on polling day, November 11.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police V C Sajjanar assured, “All necessary arrangements will be made from the police department’s side to ensure a smooth by-poll.” He also requested all candidates to deposit their weapons in the concerned police stations.
