New Delhi: Sanju Samson has been in an impressive form in T2Ois as he smashed three T20I ton in 10 matches before the Asia Cup. However, he had to move down the batting order to make way for Shubman Gill, who was appointed as the vice-captain of the T20I side. The adjustment didn’t pay off, as Samson struggled throughout the tournament, and managed to score only 132 runs in four innings, which included a single fifty.
The demotion in the batting order directly threatened Samson’s place in the playing XI, with many thought that Jitesh Sharma might be a better option, but captain Suryakumar Yadav stuck with Sanju Samson.
Samson opened up on getting demoted in Asia Cup 2025
The 30-year-old opened up on the batting demotion in the Asia Cup 2025 and said that he is ready to bat at any position for the team, including batting at No.9 or bowling left-arm spin.
“I think when you wear the Indian jersey, you can’t say no to anything. I’ve worked really hard to wear that Indian jersey and stay in that dressing room. I take a lot of pride in doing my job for my country,” Samson said, when questioned about batting at different positions for India at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards 2025.
“Even if you want me to bat at No. 9, maybe bowl some left-arm spin, whatever job for the country, I don’t mind,” Samson stated.
Samson’s place in the playing XI is not gauranteed
Although Sanju Samson is part of India’s team for the five-match T20Is series against Australia, his place in the playing XI is not guaranteed . Given that the series is a preparation to the T20 World Cup, India might lool to give Jitesh Sharma ample time to prepare for the tournament which is scheduled to be played in both Sri Lanka and India
If Samson will be picked in the playing XI, he will need to perform strongly in the opening matches, or he risks dropping down the order, with Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant also in contention.
