Hosts Team India will be aiming for series whitewash as they get ready to take on West Indies in the second Test of the two-match series starting at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday. Shubman Gill’s side had won the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by a massive margin of innings and 140 runs inside three days last week.
After the massive win in the opening game, Team India will be looking to make some changes in the playing 11. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah could be given some rest looking at his heavy workload, having come straight into the Test match arena just a few days after playing in the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai.
Team India could also try out in-form batter Devdutt Padikkal at the expense of Sai Sudharsan, who has struggled to consolidate his place in the side after 4 Test match appearances. If Bumrah is indeed rested, Prasidh Krishna could be set for a return to the Test arena after playing in the fifth Test against England at the Oval earlier this year.
West Indies, on the other hand, look far from the champion side of 1970s and 1980s. Even head coach Darren Sammy admits it will be hard to bring about a turnaround anytime soon.
Skipper Roston Chase will be hoping for an improved batting performance on the ‘black soil’ pitch in Delhi in cooler conditions as compared to Ahmedabad. But it will be an uphill task against in-form pacer Mohammed Siraj and quality spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
