Hyderabad: Thieves struck the Brilliant Institute of Engineering and Technology in Abdullapurmet, making away with nearly Rs 1 crore in cash.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night after the staff had left for the day.
Lockers and cash targeted
The burglars broke into the office and several lockers where cash belonging to three institutions under the Brilliant Group was stored. The college, owned by Congress MLA Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, came to know about the theft only when staff arrived on Friday morning.
CCTV system compromised
Investigators said the burglars also stole the DVR containing footage from nearly 200 CCTV cameras, effectively eliminating video evidence of the crime.
Insider knowledge suspected
Police believe the robbery was carried out by individuals familiar with the college’s internal operations, as they appeared to know the exact location of the cash and the CCTV network.
A case has been registered based on the complaint from the college management. Abdullapurmet police have started questioning college staff, while forensic teams have examined the scene and collected evidence. The probe is ongoing, the police added.
