US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for helping to end several long-running conflicts — including the ceasefire between India and Pakistan — as he travelled to the Middle East on Sunday. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said his administration’s latest diplomatic achievement, a ceasefire in Gaza, marked the “eighth war” he had resolved since returning to office. He went on to suggest that his approach to ending wars relied majorly on economic pressure. “This will be my eighth war that I have solved,” Trump said. “And I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said, I’ll have to wait till I get back. I am doing another one. Because I am good at solving wars.” Trump went on to highlight his role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan. “Think about India, Pakistan,” he said. “Think about some of the wars that were going on for years. We had one going for 31, one going for 32, one going for 37 years, with millions of people being killed in every country, and I got every one of those done, for the most part, within a day. It’s pretty good.” The President also revisited his past comments about the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he was not motivated by personal recognition but by the desire to save lives.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZlxjTqCimk”It’s an honour to do it. I saved millions of lives,” Trump said. “In all fairness to the Nobel committee, it was for 2024. This was picked for 2024. But there are those who say you could make an exception because a lot of things happened during 2025 that are done and complete and great. But I did not do this for the Nobel. I did this for saving lives.” Trump claimed that some of the conflicts were resolved through tariffs and trade pressures. “I settled a few of the wars just based on tariffs,” he said. “For example, between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war and you have nuclear weapons, I am going to put big tariffs on you both — like 100 per cent, 150 per cent, and 200 per cent. I said I am putting tariffs. I had that thing settled in 24 hours. If I didn’t have tariffs, you could have never settled that war.”Also Read: Nobel Peace Prize Remains Elusive for Trump; Eyes on 2026? However, India has repeatedly denied that the United States played any role in brokering peace following Operation Sindoor and the military confrontation between India and Pakistan earlier this year. Since the ceasefire announcement in May, Trump has often taken credit for halting the conflict using tariffs. However, Indian officials have consistently rejected this version of events. New Delhi maintains that the decision to halt hostilities was reached through direct talks between the two sides’ military leadership, without any third-party mediation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also told Parliament earlier this year that no external government had asked India to pause its counter-terrorism operations. The Ministry of External Affairs also dismissed suggestions that trade negotiations or tariff threats from Washington influenced India’s military or diplomatic decisions. “The ceasefire following Operation Sindoor was achieved through discussions between Indian and Pakistani commanders,” the ministry had said in an earlier statement. “There was no foreign intervention and no linkage to trade or tariffs.”
