New Delhi: India has suffered two consecutive defeats in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. These defeats against South Africa and Australia have jeopardised Team India’s chances of reaching the semifinals. Now, India must win all its remaining matches to secure a top-4 spot. This situation places immense pressure on captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Harmanpreet’s performance in this tournament has also been poor, scoring 21, 19, 9, and 22 runs respectively so far.
Harmanpreet’s struggles compared to other Indian batsmen
Most Indian batsmen have been scoring runs since the start of the tournament. Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh have all scored more than 30 runs, while Harmanpreet has managed only 22. This clearly highlights Team India’s weak position.
Fans’ anger and social media reactions
Fans took to social media to demand Harmanpreet‘s removal as captain, citing the team’s faltering performance under her captaincy. They say the team’s batting is in its worst state ever and that a change is needed.
Get rid of Harmanpreet Kaur as soon as possible.
She alone is responsible for half of the problems, rarely scores never bowls but behave like Ellyse Perry. She doesn’t have any plans for Healey, bowling looking clueless.

Harmanpreet Kaur has been captain of the Indian women’s cricket team for 12 years. She’s done a great job but isn’t it time the selectors chose a new leader for the team? Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar, Gill…the men’s team has had quite a few, so what’s so special about… pic.twitter.com/IduX1YGWhm

Coach Amol Mazumdar’s view
Head coach Amol Mazumdar expressed concern about the team’s dot ball percentage in the post-match press conference. He said, “After the last match against South Africa, we had a long discussion about how we would approach batting. It’s important to pay attention to the dot ball percentage.”
He added, “Yes, the dot ball percentage has decreased slightly, but we will monitor it more closely. I don’t know the exact percentage yet.”
