KEY TAKEAWAYS
Out of 10 movies released in February, not a single film became a clean commercial hit at the Tollywood box office.
Major releases like Vishwak Sen’s Funky and Suhas’ Hey Balwanth failed, while Santosh Shoban’s Couple Friendly managed a decent recovery.
Theater owners faced severe financial losses and had to rely on old movie re-releases, with the industry’s current hopes resting on the weekend performance of Sree Vishnu’s Vishnu Vinyasam.
A Month Without Magic
Tollywood faced a very rough month this February. After a festive and busy Sankranti season in January, the box office completely cooled down. Out of 10 new movies released in theaters over the past month, not a single one managed to become a clean hit, leaving the film trade industry highly disappointed.
Box Office February 2026 – The Hits and Misses
Looking at the month’s releases, only Santosh Shoban’s Couple Friendly managed to survive. The movie received positive word-of-mouth from audiences. While it did not pull in massive collections, it recovered enough money to be considered safe commercially.
On the other hand, movies that came with good expectations crashed. Gunasekhar’s Euphoria and Vishwak Sen’s Funky failed to attract audiences due to below-par content. Actor Suhas, who has been doing back-to-back films, also faced a bitter result with Hey Balwanth. The movie failed to get even an average response from the audience, proving that a solid commercial success is very much out of its reach.
Five other movies that were released went without a trace. Films like Shiva Kandukuri’s Nawab Cafe, Sai Simhadri’s Son Of, along with Seetha Payanam, With Love, and Sri Chidambaram Garu, had zero buzz and left theaters after their first weekend.
The Changing Audience
This poor performance shows a big shift in the mindset of audiences in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. After spending money on big theatrical experiences during the Sankranti festival, people are skipping regular movies. They are choosing to wait for digital releases on OTT platforms instead, and are only showing interest in event films.
Because of the lack of footfalls, theater exhibitors in the Nizam and Andhra regions faced huge losses this month, struggling to even pay their electricity bills. To make money, local distributors had to rely heavily on classic movie re-releases like Ram Charan’s Orange, Mahesh Babu’s Athadu, and Naga Chaitanya’s Ye Maaya Chesave.
Looking Ahead
Now, the industry is resting its final hopes on Sree Vishnu’s movie, Vishnu Vinyasam, which released yesterday, February 27. While makers hoped his signature comedy would pull crowds, the movie opened to a mixed response. Day one collections were only average. The film’s final success relies entirely on how it can make the most of this Saturday and Sunday.
Trade experts are now looking forward to the March and April lineups to bring audiences back to theaters. Hopes are pinned high on Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, Toxic, Ustaad Bhagat Singh, Peddi, Dacoit, and a few other films to revive the exhibition sector. The post Box Office February 2026: A “Dry Spell” for Tollywood — No Clean Hits After Sankranti High first appeared on Latest Telugu cinema news | Movie reviews | OTT Updates, OTT.
