After excelling in the batting lineup, Chamari Athapaththu went on to pick four wickets guiding the side towards stunning victory against Bangladesh in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 game played on october 20 at Navi Mumbai.
Sri Lanka secured a thrilling 7-run victory against Bangladesh on Monday’s clash.
Batting first, Vishmi Gunaratne and Chamari Athapaththu went on to open the innings while Marufa Akter opened the bowling attack.
Akter went on to bag the wicket of Vishmi for a duck on a lbw. However, Athapaththu and Hasini Perera went on make a 72-run partnership for the second wicket.
With Athapaththu’s dismissal for 46 runs, Samarawickrama got dismissed for 4 runs on a run out.
Kavisha Dilhari, Anushka Sanjeewani, Sugandika Kumari, and Udeshika Prabodhani got dismissed cheaply, Nilakshi de Silva went on to post 37 runs helping the side to post 202 runs.
Shorna Akter bagged three wickets while Rabeya Khan bagged two wickets each. Marufa Akter, Nishita and Nahida Akter bagged one wicket each.

In the pursuit of chasing 203 runs, Fargana Hoque and Rubya Haider went on to open the innings while Malki Madara opened the bowling attack.
Udeshika Prabodhani got the first breakthrough bagging the wicket of Rubya Haider for duck.
With Fargana Hoque and Sobhana Mostary’s dismissal cheaply, Sharmin Akhter went on went on to anchor the innings before going back out to dug out after retire hurt.
However, Nigar Sultana went on to stabilise the innings scoring 77 runs before being dismissed by Chamari Athapaththu.
However, her dismissal powered Bangladesh collapse as they lost the game which was in their control suffering a 7-run defeat at Navi Mumbai.
Hasini Perera was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the post match conference, she said, “I just covered my off stump a little more today. Then I can hit the ball outside off well. It’s a very important innings for me and my team as well.”
“Very happy with the win. Our team did really well, especially the bowlers who bowled last few overs and the fielders. I just tried to hit a boundary there. I think I should’ve finished the innings. If that happened, we could’ve got another 30-40 runs,” she concluded.
Sri Lanka will play their next match against Pakistan on October 24 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
