Hyderabad: In the wake of High Court issuing stay orders on the local body elections, BJP State president N Ramchander Rao slammed the Congress government for its negligence and lack of commitment towards upliftment of BCs in the State.
“It is due to the Congress government’s failure that High Court has issued stay orders. If it is really committed to providing 42 per cent reservations to BCs, it should approach the Supreme Court,” Ramchander Rao said.
The BJP had extended unconditional support to the State government in granting 42 percent reservations to BCs both in the Assembly and Council. But the Congress government’s intention was to derive political mileage out of the entire episode and accordingly the High Court issued stay orders, he explained at a press conference here on Thursday.
On August 31, the Congress government passed Bills in the House and sent the same to the Governor for approval. At least three months’ time was required for approval but the State government issued GO Ms 9 and local body election schedule was announced accordingly. What do these actions indicate, he asked.
“This is premature. Just to derive political advantage or to secure an award from Sonia Gandhi, the Congress government did all the drama and played with the emotions of BCs,” Ramchander Rao said, adding that MP R Krishnaiah had impleaded in the case and would present his arguments.
