Ex-KKR star follows Faf du Plessis, picks ‘new era’ PSL over IPL 2026

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Moeen Ali announced that he would be taking part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) in 2026 and not in the IPL. The England star, who was bought by the three-time champions for Rs 2 crore in the mega auction last year, was not among the players retained by the team before the mini-auction. Ali’s decision to take part in the PSL comes ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction which will be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.

After du Plessis, Ali picks PSL over IPL

Taking to social media platform X, Ali announced that he was excited to join the PSL in its ‘New Era’, noting that the league has earned the reputation for top-level T20 cricket. The former KKR star has featured in just one season in the PSL, where he played 9 matches for Multan Sultans. Ali featured in six IPL games in 2025 where he managed to pick 6 wickets and score 5 runs. Overall, he has played 73 matches for 3 teams in the cash-rich league.

“I’m really excited to be joining HBL PSL in its New Era. The league has earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket, with high-quality competition and world-class talent across every team. Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best. I’m looking forward to being part of it all and creating some great memories along the way. Ready for another special experience Insha’Allah!,” Ali wrote.

Ali’s decision to pick PSL over IPL comes days after former Delhi Capitals vice-captain Faf du Plessis decided to do the same. The ex-South African captain, who was bought by DC for Rs 2 crore, was released by the franchise despite having an average season with the franchise.
