Hyderabad, Telangana – Employees from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) Revenue wing staged a protest at the corporation’s headquarters on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Their demands focused on urgent promotions, increased recruitment, and a vital rationalization of their job responsibilities.
A key grievance centered on the recent shift of trade license and advertisement fee collection to their department from the Sanitation wing. These duties, previously handled by Assistant Medical Officers of Health, are now burdening bill collectors and tax inspectors, who argue it adds excessive strain to their existing workload.
In a formal representation to the GHMC Commissioner, the Revenue Employees Welfare Association highlighted a critical staff shortage. With fewer than 100 bill collectors currently managing property tax collection across 343 dockets, the association urged the Commissioner to deploy sufficient personnel to all circles. They also pressed for promotions to Superintendent for qualified staff who have passed departmental examinations.
The association further noted that while only 70 individuals are officially designated as bill collectors, numerous Class IV employees with graduate degrees are already performing these duties. They called for these individuals to be formally promoted to bill collector positions.
Among other demands, the association emphasized the need for petrol coupons for bill collectors and tax inspectors, citing their extensive daily travel of 25-30 kilometers in the line of duty.
