Hyderabad, October 23, 2024: A road leading to Chaknawadi in Goshamahal, Hyderabad, collapsed for the third time early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 2 AM, but fortunately, no one was injured.
The 730-meter road, which stretches from Darusalam to Chaknawadi, is built over a nala. A portion of the Chaknawadi stretch, measuring 230 meters long and nine meters wide, caved in.
According to GHMC engineers, the road’s metal portion has been deteriorating due to heavy vehicle traffic passing over the cement concrete slab that covers the nala.
Despite previous repairs, the road continues to collapse. A senior GHMC engineer stated that a permanent solution to restore the entire stretch would require a budget of five crore rupees. He emphasized that temporary fixes are not sustainable.
The road, constructed approximately four decades ago, has deteriorated over the years. Local residents have complained about the issue multiple times but have yet to see a lasting solution.
Akash Agarwal, a frequent user of the road, expressed frustration with the recurring collapses. “Previously, push carts and vehicles were damaged. Instead of temporary repairs, authorities should implement permanent measures to resolve this issue once and for all,” he said.
