Khammam: A Gurukul teacher, who was accused of sexually harassing a Class 9 boy, died by suicide on Monday.
A Prabhakar Rao, an outsourcing zoology teacher at the Telangana Minority Residential School and Junior College in Ammapalem, Konijerla mandal, was accused of abusing the boy sexually for the past several weeks.
The boy, who went home for the Dasara holidays, refused to return to the school and expressed a desire to join another school locally. When his parents inquired about the reasons, he revealed the teacher’s actions.
The parents lodged a complaint with the institute principal and the Konijerla police. The teacher was booked under the POCSO Act and was removed from his position. It is reported that he attempted suicide by consuming pesticide a couple of days ago, feeling ashamed after the matter became public.
He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad.
