The England Women’s Cricket Team have jumped to the top spot of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Points Table after a 10-wicket thrashing of South Africa Women in Guwahati. Proteas were bowled out for just 69 runs in 20.4 overs. England chased that target down in just 14.1 overs to take a big Net Run Rate boost. The heavy loss meant South Africa hit rock bottom. The match also concluded the first round with Australia, Bangladesh and India taking the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spot, respectively.
Hosts India began their Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign with a comfortable win over Sri Lanka in Guwahati. In a rain-curtailed match, India sealed a 59-run win thanks to the all-round brilliance of Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur.
On Day 2, Australia Women cruised to an 89-run win over New Zealand Women in Indore. Australia set a 327-run target. But New Zealand were bowled out for 237 runs, despite Sophie Devine scoring a fighting century.
India qualified as hosts, while Pakistan and Bangladesh had to get through via a qualifier. Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England made it through via the ICC Women’s ODI championship.

The Women’s World Cup 2025 format sees 8 teams face other once in a round robin format. Qualification is rather straight forward- Top 4 after the league stage make it to the semifinals. Each win counts for 2 points, while a tie or a rain abandoned match would see points shared one apiece. In case of equal points, NRR will be the differentiator.
