Producers Hombale Films have achieved a legal victory ahead of the grand release of ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, a prequel to the 2022 global blockbuster ‘Kantara’.
The Karnataka High Court has granted an interim stay against the state government’s regulation capping cinema ticket prices at Rs 200 (excluding taxes). Hombale Films, along with the Multiplex Association of India, challenged the rule, arguing it would hurt the revenue of high-budget films.
The prequel, set for a pan-Indian release on October 2, is being mounted on a massive scale with an estimated Rs 125 crore budget, a stark contrast to the original’s modest Rs 16 crore.
Directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ delves into the ancient roots of the Bhuta Kola ritual and traces the story’s origin in the mystical forests of Banavasi. Shetty will play the role of Nagasadu Veera, a figure who acts as a bridge between humans and the divine.
The film boasts large-scale battle sequences, including chariot fights utilizing Hollywood rigging technology, and is set to feature a star ensemble including Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. Advance bookings have already generated significant revenue, highlighting the massive anticipation for the film.
