Neutrogena, a popular cosmetics brand, is recalling certain makeup wipes that may be contaminated with bacteria capable of causing serious infections, including sepsis. These products were distributed to Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida starting September 19, 2025. Consumers are advised to stop using the wipes and safely dispose of them.The wipes tested positive for Pluralibacter gergoviae (P gergoviae), previously known as Enterobacter gergoviae. This bacterium is opportunistic, meaning it does not always cause disease but can become harmful in certain conditions. It is also multi-drug resistant, meaning it cannot be treated with several common antibiotics, including penicillins.
