“Pallichattambi Is a Heartfelt Family Film”: Tovino Thomas & Kayadu Lohar

Malayalam star Tovino Thomas and actress Kayadu Lohar interacted with the media ahead of the release of their upcoming pan-India film Pallichattambi, sharing insights about the film, their characters, and the making experience. Directed by Dijo Jose Antony, the film is produced by Noufael, Brijesh, Chanakya, Chaitanya, and Charan under the banners of Worldwide Films and C Cube Bros Entertainments. The movie is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on April 10 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Speaking at the press interaction, Tovino Thomas said he had known director Dijo for a long time and had been looking forward to collaborating with him. “We discussed several ideas earlier, but due to my commitments, we couldn’t start immediately. When Dijo narrated Pallichattambi, I found it very exciting and decided to take it up. After completing my previous projects and once Dijo wrapped up Jana Gana Mana, we began working on this film,” he said, adding that the project also saw a change in producers during its early stages.
Talking about his transformation, Tovino revealed that he had to undergo a physical change for the role. “The character needed to look strong and capable of taking on villains. I gained weight, stopped dieting, and changed my hairstyle and mustache for a more powerful appearance. Working with Dijo is very comfortable; he is calm on set and never loses his temper,” he shared.
The actor also spoke about his work approach and connection with audiences. “I prefer taking breaks between films and spending time with my family. It helps me look at the industry from an outsider’s perspective. I have had discussions about Telugu projects, but nothing is finalized yet. I am currently in a strong position in Malayalam cinema, and I don’t want to affect the trust people have in me there. Even without doing straight Telugu films, I’m happy that Telugu audiences appreciate my work,” he said.
Tovino further appreciated the team behind the film. “I have previously worked with producers Noufael and Brijesh. Director Dijo ensured there were no compromises. I’m also happy that Telugu producers Chaitanya, Chanakya, and Charan joined the project. Music director Jakes Bejoy has added great emotional depth and intensity to the film,” he noted.
Sharing details about the story, Tovino explained that Pallichattambi is a fictional narrative inspired by incidents from 1950s Kerala. “The film reflects the social conditions of that time without imposing any opinions. Its core message is about humanity — no one is superior or inferior. It’s a beautiful emotional film that families can watch together. There is no negative portrayal of any religion. Even though some scenes are set in a church, the story would remain the same in any other setting. It mainly focuses on socio-political elements,” he clarified, adding that there are no plans for a sequel.
Actress Kayadu Lohar described Pallichattambi as a significant project in her career. “This film is much more meaningful to me compared to my earlier works. Director Dijo approached me after watching Pathonpatham Noottandu. After hearing the story, I felt it would be a special film. I play Rebecca, a strong and intellectual character, very different from my previous roles. It’s not a glamour-based role and has strong importance in the story,” she said.
Kayadu also spoke about her preparation process. “Whenever I work in a new language, I attend workshops and spend time understanding the script with the help of language experts. I did the same for this film. I also did some research, but Dijo advised me to focus more on the script to avoid confusion,” she explained.
She added that her character appears in two different looks and that the director had a clear vision for her role. “Sometimes, last-minute dialogue changes were challenging. Acting alongside Tovino was a learning experience for me. His performance level is very high, and I was inspired by him. Though I usually feel confident, I was a bit nervous working with him,” she admitted.
Concluding her interaction, Kayadu said, “Pallichattambi is a beautiful emotional film that families can watch together. There are no restrictions for any category of audience. Once you watch the film, you will understand its intention. There is no specific agenda behind it.”
With strong content, a compelling backdrop, and a pan-India release plan, Pallichattambi is building solid anticipation ahead of its theatrical release.
