Psych Siddhartha Review – Unique & Whacy Presentation That’s Slightly Overdone

Psych Siddhartha is a 2026 Telugu-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Varun Reddy. The film has Shree Nandu & Yaamini Bhaskar playing the lead roles while Narasimha S, Priyanka Rebekah Srinivas, Sukesh, Wadekar Narsing, Bobby Ratakonda, Sakshi Atree Chaturvedi, Mounika, Pradyumna Billuri & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Smaran Sai while the film is produced by Shree Nandu & Shyam Sunder Reddy Thudi under Spirit Media, Nanduness & Keep Rolling Pictures banners.
Story:
Siddharth (Shree Nandu) falls in love with Trisha (Priyanka Rebecca) but is betrayed when she runs away with Mansoor (Sukesh), who cheats Siddharth by taking his money in the name of business development. Broken by the loss of both love and money, Siddharth is left penniless and ends up living in a small penthouse.
Shravya (Yaamini Bhaskar), a classical dancer, escapes from her abusive husband with her son Rishi (Pradyumna) and moves into a rented house below Siddharth’s room. How do Siddharth and Shravya meet, what changes their lives, and how does Siddharth take revenge on Trisha and Mansoor? Needs to be seen in the film.
What about on-screen performances?
Shree Nandu comes out of his comfort zone and tries something different with this film as Siddharth. Unlike his previous films, a lot of care was taken from his look to the acting so that only the character is visible in this film. He maintained that look and does well as a psycho who went crazy after a breakup & lost money. But there are times when he went a bit overboard in a few scenes, too.
Yaamini Bhaskar, making a comeback after a gap, delivers a strong and impactful performance as a mother to a young boy and as a wife suffering domestic abuse. Her dubbing in a few scenes didn’t match her expression, which should’ve been taken care of.
Priyanka Rebekah Srinivas is decent in the role of Trisha, the girl who dumps Siddharth.
Child artist Pradyumna Billuri also performs very well as the heroine’s son.
Narasimha, who plays the hero’s friend, is a complete miscast and his acting is not up to the mark. All his scenes are ineffective.
Sukesh, who places Mansoor, is fine in his part.
Wadekar Narsing, Bobby Ratakonda, Sakshi Atree Chaturvedi, Mounika and all others are okay.
What about off-screen talents?
The story by Varun Reddy is a routine love story where the hero has a breakup and finds true love again. Stories like these need more clarity in the writing and more depth with the characters, which is lacking here. In an attempt to make the film look cool and new-age, the makers forget to add the needed emotional connect.
The screenplay by Varun Reddy and additional screenplay by Shree Nandu is very predictable and doesn’t have a strong emotional connect. The film is mainly told based on Siddharth’s role, and we do not fully connect to his character, as it is not properly established, and there is no convincing backstory that we can rely on. For example, we are told he gave out 2 crores to start a business, but he lives in a dirty and small house. A little more information could’ve made more sense.
Also, the comedy generated through his character works only in parts. While some laugh-out-loud moments connect well with today’s youth, the regularity of these moments is very low, and sometimes it feels like they are trying too hard to sell the wacky gig when it is not required or not present.
Director Varun Reddy does a passable job with his presentation, but his narrative could’ve been a lot better. As a maker, he tried to give a different visualisation through his edit choices. However, as a storyteller, he could add the required depth to the characters. But he should be appreciated for writing a meaningful role for the heroine.
The dialogues are witty, and a few funny one-liners bring in good laughs in the theatres.
The songs by Smaran Sai are trendy and enjoyable to listen to. The Blue Yellow breakup track has a superb feel to it & Dhum Thakum Song is impressive too. His background score also complements the narrative neatly.
The camera work by K. Prakash Reddy is good in places, but it also includes a lot of blurry shots that are clearly visible in many scenes. Also, the camera movement in a few scenes felt odd.
The edit by Prateek Nuti is something that will be talked about after the film is done. Be it positive or negative, this edit syle will certainly leave an impact. And yes, other than being unique with the edit, it also did bore us as it kept on repeating the same.
The costumes by Priyanka Rebekah Srinivas are colourful and adequate.
Special mention to the guys who did the wall drawings and paintings in the film.
The production values by Spirit Media, Nanduness & Keep Rolling Pictures are limited.
What’s Hot?
* Shree Nandu’s Performance
* Yaamini Bhaskar’s Performance
* Blue Yellow & Dhum Thakum Songs
* Well Written Heroine Characterisation
* Unique & Refreshing Edit Style
* Few Funny Meme References
What’s Not?
* Simple Story & Dragged Out Screenplay
* Overly Used Edit Pattern At Few Places
* Narasimha Performance As Hero’s Friend
* Few Repititive Scenes & Unwanted Adult Scenes
* Too Many Blur Shots/Frames
Verdict: Overall, Psych Siddhartha is a middling youthful rom-com from Nandu & team that tries something new but doesn’t end up fully impressing the viewers. The film stands out for its unique voice and presentation style, supported by a wacky edit. However, this approach is often overdone, diluting the impact and testing our patience.
