Top Telugu filmmaker Sukumar, known for his sharp calculations and creative storytelling, is once again making headlines for the unique way he plans his career. Rajamouli once said that if a director like Sukumar enters full-fledged commercial cinema, others might not be able to match him. Sukumar proved that right in 2018 with the blockbuster “Rangasthalam” starring Ram Charan. Later, he moved to the “Pushpa” universe and reshaped Allu Arjun’s image on a national level.
Sukumar always narrates his stories to Mahesh Babu first, and if Mahesh feels the story suits another actor better, he steps back. The same happened with “Pushpa.” Mahesh politely suggested the script would fit Allu Arjun, and Sukumar went ahead with Bunny. When Sukumar showed the film to Rajamouli, he advised releasing it as a pan-India film because the hero’s look strongly connected with audiences in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The result was surprising—while “Pushpa” received mixed reactions in Telugu states, it became a huge blockbuster in North India.
The success expanded in 2024 with “Pushpa 2,” which became one of the biggest hits of the year. Before that, Sukumar gave mega fans “Rangasthalam” in 2018 and “Pushpa” in 2021. Now, he is gearing up to collaborate with Ram Charan once again. The script work is almost complete, and the film will be produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the same banner behind “Rangasthalam” and “Pushpa.”
The director is fully booked until 2030. After his student Buchi Babu finishes “Peddi,” Ram Charan will join Sukumar’s sets. This film is expected to take nearly two years to complete. Once that wraps up, Sukumar will immediately return to Allu Arjun for the next installment in the “Pushpa” universe. That project will also take one to two years. In simple terms, Sukumar has dedicated almost an entire decade exclusively to films from the Mega family.
For a filmmaker known for deep thinking and creative storytelling, giving ten years to the same family of stars is no small decision. Most directors look for new subjects and fresh collaborations after each film, but Sukumar has chosen to invest his prime creative years in Mega heroes. Fans are now curious to see whether he will continue this trend even beyond 2030.
