US gas station shooting: Texas resident arrested for killing Hyderabad student Chandrashekar Pole

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old Texas man was arrested for allegedly fatally shooting 28-year-old Hyderabad student Chandrashekar Pole at a Fort Worth gas station on Friday night.
Police have identified the shooter as Richard Florez of North Richland Hills,
The incident has left the local Indian-American community shocked and fearful.
Details of the Shooting
Police said Florez shot Chandrashekar while he was working a part-time shift at a gas station on Eastchase Parkway.
After fleeing the scene, Florez reportedly fired at another vehicle about a mile away, causing no injuries, and later crashed into a gate while attempting to enter a nearby residence.
Officers recovered a firearm from his vehicle and booked him for homicide, although he is currently hospitalized.
Victim confirmed dead
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Pole’s death at the scene. Authorities have not yet determined the motive, and further statements have been delayed due to a local government shutdown.
Indian Consulate assists family
The Consulate General of India in Houston is in touch with Chandrashekar’s family to facilitate the return of his mortal remains. A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to support the family during this difficult time.
Background of the victim
Chandrashekar, originally from Hyderabad, completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery before moving to the US two years ago for a Master’s in Data Analytics at the University of North Texas, Denton.
He had finished his degree six months ago and was working part-time at the gas station while seeking employment, his brother Damodar said.

The killing has reignited concerns over the safety of international students working late-hour jobs in the US. Several recent incidents, including shootings and unexplained deaths involving Indian students, have left families and the community anxious.
