Lady Superstar Vijaya Shanti’s iconic film Pratighatana, produced by Ushakiran Movies, celebrated its 40th anniversary recently. Released on October 11, 1985, the film created a major sensation at the time and is remembered for its powerful social message and Vijaya Shanti’s commanding performance. The actress and current MLC shared her thoughts on the film, emphasizing its significance in her career.
“Pratighatana will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the sensational hit that established me as a superstar. My sincere thanks to director T. Krishna and producer Ramoji Rao. I also extend my gratitude to lyricist Veturi Sundaramurthy for the song ‘Ee Duryodhana Dushasana’ and to the audience for their tremendous support,” Vijaya Shanti said.
The film is celebrated as a story of social awakening, portraying the journey of a vulnerable woman who transforms into a fearless revolutionary. Against the backdrop of political corruption and rampant rowdyism, the movie depicts how this modern-day Jhansi Rani challenges tyranny, symbolizing courage, justice, and empowerment for women in society.
