Team India and their captain Suryakumar Yadav had refused to accept the Asia Cup 2025 if it was handed over by Mohsin Naqvi. India defeated Pakistan for the third time in three weeks – by five wickets to win the Asia Cup title for a record 9th time.
Naqvi had courted controversy by sharing a video of Al Nassr footballer Cristiano Ronaldo making a ‘fighter jet’ gesture on his official social media handle. The post from the PCB chairman came before the Asia Cup 2025 final and after Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf made the same gesture during the Super 4 match against India at the Dubai International Stadium.
The PCB boss had also complained against Suryakumar Yadav to the ICC match referee, claiming that the Indian skipper had made political comments after India’s Group A match against Pakistan last month.
Naqvi’s complaint had resulted in Suryakumar Yadav getting warned and fined 30 per cent of his match fees. Meanwhile, Abrar ended the Asia Cup 2025 tournament with six wickets in his 7 matches.
He made his international debut for Pakistan in 2022 and has since played in 10 Tests, 11 ODIs, and 23 T20Is, taking a total of 93 wickets in international cricket. His achievements include two five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. Abrar has been named in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming two-match home Test series against World Test champions South Africa, scheduled to begin in Lahore on October 12.
