New Delhi: The upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia will be very crucial for Rohit Sharma. Despite leading India to the Champions Trophy title, Rohit was snubbed from ODI captaincy, while Shubman Gill will lead India in the ODI format along with Test.

He last featured in a match for India during February-March Champions Trophy 2025, and many also predicted that the Australia ODI series could be his last tour as an international cricketer.

Rohit Sharma shared his excitement for the upcoming tour of Australia and his fondness for playing against the reigning 50-over world champions. He made these ]comment at the CEAT Cricket Ratings Awards in Mumbai, where he was presented with a memento for leading India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Rohit said he loves playing with the Indian team
Ahead of the Australian tour, which begins on October 19 with three-match ODIs, the only format Rohit is currently playing, he said, “I love that team, I love playing with them.”
Rohit also famously known as ‘Hitman’ is regarded as the all-time great in ODI format. He has scored 11,168 runs in 273 matches and 265 innings at an average of 48.76 and a strike rate of 92.80, which includes 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries. He is also India’s fourth-highest ODI run-scorer.
He has a decent record in Australia, with 1,328 runs in 30 matches and innings at an average of 53.12 and a strike rate of over 90, which includes five centuries and four fifties in the Aussie land with the best score of 171*.
Shubman Gill set to lead India in Autralia ODI series
Rohit will get to experience something different this time, as he won’t be leading the team, instead his batting partner Shubman Gill is all set to take up the captaincy role. Gill showcased his leadership qualities in Test cricket, guiding India to a hard-fought 2-2 draw in England and currently leading a two-match series against the West Indies at home 1-0. It will be interesting to see how Rohit approaches his batting without the responsibilities of the captaincy.
Reflecting on leading his team to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, Rohit described the ICC Champions Trophy as a turning point. After setbacks, which included a 10-wicket defeat to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup at Adelaide, the team decided to take a different approach. Rohit said everyone fully supported this strategy, making it easier for him and coach Rahul Dravid.
