Who Is Jashanpreet Singh? Truck Driver Behind Ontario 101 Freeway Crash Driver Identified

Authorities have identified 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh of Yuba City as the driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs when he caused a deadly eight-vehicle pileup on the 10 Freeway in Ontario, California. The crash, which occurred around 1:10 PM on Tuesday near the 15 Freeway interchange, involved four semi-trucks, two pickup trucks, and two cars, leaving three people dead and four others injured.Investigators from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said traffic on the westbound lanes had slowed to a crawl when Singh’s red tractor-trailer failed to stop, slamming into several vehicles and triggering a massive chain-reaction collision. Singh, who authorities say was under the influence of drugs, was arrested at the scene and later booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs. It didn’t make any kind of maneuvers. It just went straight in,” said Jason Calmelat, who watched the crash unfold from a nearby parking lot, told NBC Los Angeles. He added that the truck rolled and veered into the embankment before catching fire. “I saw the truck driver jump out because it was on fire,” Calmelat said.A video from a dashcam purportedly shows the moments leading up to the impact, capturing the speeding semi-truck plowing into slow-moving traffic.
