The NZW vs PAKW clash in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, played on October 18 at Colombo, has ended with no result due to persistent rain.

Pakistan, who batted first, went on to score 92 runs for 5 wickets in 25 overs before rain played spoilsport twice at Colombo.

The first interruption came during the 13th over of the Pakistan innings after Fatima Sana’s side scored 52 runs for 3 wickets.

After a brief moment, the game continued with each side set to play 46 overs each, which was derived by DLS method. Resuming the game, Pakistan went on to score 92 runs for 5 wickets in 25 overs before rain started to pour again.

Muneeba Ali went on to score 22 runs while Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin has been dismissed cheaply. Despite the dismissals of Muneeba Ali, Natalia Pervaiz and Fatima Sana’s dismissal for cheaply, Aliya Riaz (28*) remained at crease along with Sidra Nawaz before rain played spoilsport.

With persistent rain, the game has been called off and each team has been handed a point. However, it does not make any change in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 points table as Pakistan remains in the bottom.

Speaking at the toss, Sophie Devine said, “We’re going to bowl first today. I think we saw that they pitched it a little up in the England vs Pakistan game.”

“So we’re going to have a first crack at that, and especially with the weather that’s been around in Colombo probably the last week or so, I think knowing what to chase is sometimes of benefit,” added New Zealand captain.

“Just got to focus on this game. I think, you know, that’s been our priority, focusing on this game and making sure that we do the basics really well and focus on the processes. I know it’s very cliché, but we know if we start focusing too far ahead, then we can sort of get ahead of ourselves,” added Sophie.

“So looking forward to a really good challenge here against Pakistan. We have got full belief in our two openers. I think especially when you’ve got Suzie there, who’s got a wealth of experience, and Georgia Plummer as well, who’s still learning her craft, but she’s such an exciting talent.”

“So for us, we’re absolutely backing them 100 percent and looking forward to seeing what they can do today with the bat,” concluded Devine.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana said, “We have good belief in our side, and the way the guys performed, in our bowling and fielding side. I think we still have that belief. Hopefully, they will execute a better plan today and bounce back. Hopefully we will try to win this game. Playing with the same team.”
