Women’s World Cup 2025: Smriti Mandhana breaks record for most ODI runs in a calendar year

Smriti Mandhana is yet to hit the ground running at the Women’s World Cup 2025. Regardless, the Indian vice-captain found herself in the record books in the IND-W vs SA-W clash on Thursday. Mandhana now holds the record for the most runs in a calendar year in Women’s ODIs.

Most runs in a calendar year in ODIs (Women’s)

  • 972* – Smriti Mandhana (IND-W, 2025)
  • 970 – Belinda Clark (AUS-W, 1997)
  • 882 – Laura Wolvaardt (SA-W, 2022)
  • 880 – Debbie Hockley (NZ-W, 1997)
  • 853 – Amy Satterthwaite (NZ-W, 2016)

Mandhana has had a dream run in 2025 at the top of the order. The left-hander has hit four centuries this year the second most in single year in ODIs. In fact, in the last 24 months Mandhana has 8 centuries continuing her meteoric rise in the 50-over format.

Unfortunately for India, those runs are yet to translate into the Women’s World Cup. In three games, Mandhana has failed to score a half century and has struggled to play the long innings. She has scored an identical 23 against both Pakistan and South Africa. A lot was expected from the vice captain but runs have simply dried up for the stylish left hander.
