Osmania University (OU) will soon have a direct live communication link to Antarctica, providing students with a unique opportunity to interact with ISRO scientists engaged in critical research on climate change and other areas. This initiative is part of the skill development programs in space technologies that the university will be launching in collaboration with the ISRO-National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).
Enhancing Students’ Understanding of Real-World Scientific Challenges
The live interaction with scientists in Antarctica will allow OU students to gain firsthand knowledge of the real-world challenges faced by researchers and the instruments used in their exploration. This experience is designed to enhance students’ understanding of scientific concepts and create awareness about the importance of space exploration.
ISRO’s Antarctica Ground Station
The ISRO established its Antarctica Ground Station for Earth Observation Satellites at Bharati Station, Larsemann Hills, Antarctica, in 2013. This station receives Indian remote sensing satellite data and transfers it to NRSC in Hyderabad.
Skill Development Programs in Space Technologies
The MoU between OU and ISRO will enable the university to launch skill development programs in space-based navigation, maintenance of space instruments, and mission planning. These programs will be open to students from diploma, engineering, and undergraduate degree programs in Telangana.
Collaboration with NRSC for Campus Geo-Fencing
NRSC will also provide high-resolution photos of the OU campus to enable the university to geo-fence its land. These photos will be shared with civic authorities to prevent encroachments on the university’s property.
