‘I will get a chance’: India’s best domestic all-rounder hopeful of national call-up

91 runs in the first innings for Mumbai, vs J&K, followed by a 41, to go by nine wickets in the match. These are the numbers of one of the finest domestic all-rounders in the country right now — Shams Mulani. The 28-year-old Mumbaikar has been performing for the last few seasons in the Ranji Trophy, and should be hopeful for an India call-up.

Shams Mulani Saved the Day for Mumbai

Speaking after the match, Mulani sounded positive of the national call-up, and mentioned, what worked for him in the match. “Right through the game, I thought the ball was coming out of my hand nicely. If there was even a little help, I felt I could be effective. I tried to use the crease well,” Mulani was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

His returns have been excellent in the last three years, but somehow he has been picked for the India A side only once, where he played against the England Lions last year in Feb, where he ended up taking a fifer as well.

India Call-up Will Come

“My mindset is very clear. I just want to perform for Mumbai. Selection is not in my hands. My job is to perform,” he said when asked about the limited opportunities at a higher level. “Performance never hurts. If I keep putting in such Player-of-the-Match performances, I know that things will be good and that I will get a chance.”

As far as his overall FC record is concerned, Shams Mulani has played 52 matches, and picked up 244 wickets. In addition to that, he has scored 2327 runs at an average of 32, where he has scored a ton and 20 fifties.
